MOVE Dance, now in it’s 15th year, is an outreach program of Dance Alliance that offers weekly hip hop classes to at-risk, handicapped and non-handicapped teenagers who attend Saratoga Springs High School. The classes which meet from September to May are taught by Skidmore College pre-professional hip hop choreographer/dancers. The troupe’s motto is, “We are all superstars” and stresses positive self-image, music with positive lyrics, and respect for all regardless of talent, intellectual or economic means. There are no auditions and the only requirement is “a love of dance.” Mirrors are not used purposefully so the participants focus on their love of movement rather than their technical ability.
Stewart’s Shops has supported this program for many years and created a video about the program.
