The Egg and Union College are pleased to announce a four-day residency by Eisenhower Dance Detroit from October 15-18, 2024 which will include community outreach, rehearsals with local dancers and a public performance at The Egg. The residency is made possible by the partnership of the venue and college as well as a major gift from Gus and Sue Davis, Union class of ’59, in memory of their daughter Stephanie.

Moving into its 33rd season as a professional contemporary dance repertory company, Eisenhower Dance Detroit (EDD) gives life to the work of nationally and internationally known choreographers along with that of its founding artistic director, Laurie Eisenhower, and current artistic director, Stephanie Pizzo.   Since its inception, EDD has grown from a small pick-up company into an eleven-dancer roster employing seven professional company dancers and four apprentices.  Considered one of the finest contemporary dance companies in the Midwest, EDD has been hailed for its artistry from sources including The New York TimesLos Angeles TimesChicago TribuneHour Magazine and Detroit Free Press.  The company has performed works by choreographers Hope Boykin, Tamisha Guy, Maleek Washington, James Gregg and Rauf Yasif, Nicolo Fonte, Edgar Zendejas, Lar Lubovitch, Ron de Jesus and Darrell Grand Moultrie, to name a few.  This residency will mark EDD’s first Capital Region appearance.

As part of the residency, EDD will audition and choose a dozen area college dancers to perform with them at The Egg on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 8pm.  The company and local dancers will perform artistic director Pizzo’s “State of Mind.” Additional works on the program will be  “Legacy Island” by Norbert De La Cruz III; “En-code” by Australian, disabled choreographer Marc Brew; Taylor “Hyper” by Micaela Taylor and “See Me” by Christian Denice.

Residency activities will also take place at the Union College campus on Thursday, October 17 with a master class from 6pm to 7:15pm and a lecture/demonstration from 7:30pm to 8:30pm.  Both events are free and open to the public.
