Dena Abergel, Children’s Ballet Mistress of New York City Ballet, has announced auditions for children’s roles in Garland Dance which is to be danced this July at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center.
Sixteen girls ages 9-12, less than 5 feet tall, with at least two years of ballet
training are needed. Understudies will also be cast. Rehearsals will be June 30 to July 8 with performances at 8pm on July 9 and 10 and at 2pm on July 13.
The application may be downloaded at www.dancemuseum.org/school and should be brought to the audition. Check-in will commence at 2:30pm.
Garland Dance is Balanchine’s 1981 interpretation of the famous dance from The Sleeping Beauty, the first ballet the legendary choreographer danced as a child in Russia. The ballet which features a large cast, including 16 children, has never been seen at SPAC as an excerpted work.
